Share of Voice

Share of Voice (SoV) is the primary metric in Quratic. It measures how often your brand appears in AI responses relative to the total number of checks run.

Share of Voice = (checks where your brand appeared) ÷ (total checks run) × 100

A check is counted as a brand appearance if your brand name appears anywhere in the AI response text.

An appearance is counted when:

  • Your brand name appears in the AI response text (case-insensitive)
  • This includes appearances in lists, comparisons, recommendations, and disclaimers

An appearance is not counted when:

  • Your brand is only mentioned in the prompt itself
  • Your brand appears in a citation URL but not in the response text (that is tracked separately as a citation)
SoV rangeInterpretation
0–10%Low visibility; your brand is rarely mentioned for this query type
10–30%Moderate; you appear occasionally but are not a default recommendation
30–60%Strong; you are consistently in the mix for this query
60–80%Very strong; you are a top recommendation for this query
80–100%Dominant; you appear in almost every response

These ranges are rough guides. What is “good” depends on the competitiveness of the query — a 40% SoV in a highly contested category may be better than a 70% SoV in a niche one.

Because AI responses often mention multiple brands, SoV scores do not add up to 100% across competitors. It is entirely possible for:

  • Your brand to have 50% SoV
  • Competitor A to have 60% SoV

This means both brands appeared in over half of all responses — they are co-mentioned frequently.

This differs from traditional SoV (e.g. share of ad impressions) where shares sum to 100%. In AI query analytics, SoV measures presence, not exclusivity.

Different AI models have different tendencies. You may have a 65% SoV on Perplexity but 30% SoV on ChatGPT for the same prompt. These are tracked separately on the Models page.

SoV reflects how AI platforms perceive your brand based on their training data and live web content. Factors that tend to improve SoV over time:

  • More high-quality, authoritative content on your domain
  • Third-party mentions and reviews on sites AI platforms crawl
  • Being cited in AI-visible sources (major publications, review aggregators)
  • PR and content strategies targeting AI-indexed content

Quratic measures the outcome. Improving it requires offline content and SEO work.
